About Tofu Hound Press
We’re an independent publisher of books on veganism/vegetarianism, animal rights, and related issues. Our goal is to publish smaller runs of books that otherwise might not make it to market through conventional publishers.
We’re not owned by any giant corporations. In fact, we’re not even incorporated. We’re just a few like-minded folks who want to get important ideas out there that otherwise might not see the light of day because of their limited profitability. For us, profitable ideas aren’t always the best ones, and we refuse to limit ourselves to the least common denominator in what we write and what we publish.
We’re small and agile enough that we can exist in the spaces between the giants. In fact, we think that’s where most of the exciting stuff is happening. We dig independent media. To the greatest extent possible, we work with people who share our values.
So, that’s us.
We don’t have a ton of money, we aren’t going to make anyone famous, and we certainly aren’t going to get rich on this stuff. But if what we publish can make even the tiniest difference, we’ve accomplished what we’re out to accomplish.
What's up with your name?
The general partners of the press live with two dogs who love tofu. As soon as the dogs hear the package being opened, they come running, looking for their tofu. Of course, we oblige, and think of it as an inexpensive royalty for using their story as our name.
